TRUCKERS EXPRESS understands that the only time a driver is getting paid is when the truck is moving. We do our best to strategically locate so we can serve you on your down time and avoid you having to waste you day off just to get your medical card updated. Our goal for scheduled appointments is to get you in and out in 30 minutes. Staying on schedule requires you to download and print out the medical history pages and complete them prior to arrival for your physical. If you show up for an appointment without the completed form, it will delay your processing time. We understand many drivers have underlying health conditions that require monitoring, and we therefore ask those who have medical conditions to be sure and bring the supporting documents with you to ensure you can qualify for the maximum allowed certification time. Remember, when completing the history of the federal history and exam form, you are completing a federal form and any intentional omissions or false statements made on the form could result in a felony charge for falsifying a federal document. It is important that you provide accurate and complete medical history information.
History of obstructive sleep apnea: If you have sleep apnea and wear a CPAP you will need to bring a copy of you CPAP compliance report. It is also helpful to have a copy of your sleep study because many drivers have mild sleep apnea and probably do not need to be required to wear the CPAP or provide a compliance report. Generally, only those with moderate or severe OSA are required to wear a CPAP machine and provide a compliance report. Having a copy of the sleep study allows us to make the determination.
Cardiac Conditions: Coronary artery disease, coronary stents, atrial fibrillation, pacemakers, congestion and cardiomyopathy require a clearance letter from your cardiologist in order to certify you for one year. You will need to bring the clearance letter with you when you come for you DOT exam.
Pulmonary conditions: Advanced pulmonary conditions such as moderate to severe COPD could require clearance from a pulmonologist. If you already have a pulmonologist, please bring a clearance letter.
Diabetes: Ideally, you should bring an A1C level that was done in the last 6 months and if you are on insulin, you must bring a medical clearance letter from the prescribing physician who is managing your diabetes. Drivers with diabetes who are well controlled are eligible for a 1-year medical card.
Controlled substances: Drivers who take controlled substances must have a clearance letter from their prescribing doctor stating their medications are not taken while driving and do not interfere with the drivers ability to drive a commercial vehicle. We cannot give you a medical card without clearance from you prescribing physician.
Neurological conditions: Medical conditions such as a stroke of a history of seizures required a clearance letter from your treating neurologist in order to be cleared to drive.
Hypertension: If you are on blood pressure medications, be sure and list them on the history portion of the exam form. Drivers who have hypertension on medications that is well controlled qualify for 1 year of certification. If the blood pressure is mildly elevated, you will still be able to get a temporary medical card and will be required to follow up with your primary care physician to stabilize your blood pressure. Once your blood pressure has been corrected you can qualify for a 1 year medical card.
Chemical dependance and drug addiction: Individuals who have been treated to chemical dependance, alcohol abuse or drug addiction in the last 2 years must have a letter from their psychiatrist indicating that have been complaint and are medically cleared to drive a commercial vehicle.
CORPORATE SITE VISITS: We offer corporate site visits for a minimum of $2500 for up to 25 drivers ($100 per driver) and we can do up to 60 drivers in a day. Travel time 2 hours round trip included. Travel cost beyond 2 hours round trip not included.
